Business Strategist, Job Description (Position Filled)

Vancouver, BC (Remote work)

Amphoraxe Life Sciences Inc. is a leading Research and Development Biotechnology Company headquartered in Vancouver. Our primary mission is to pioneer the development of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) as groundbreaking alternatives to conventional small molecule antibiotics. By combating antimicrobial resistance, our work aims to protect human health and ensure the safety of the global food chain for an expanding world population. 

Limited-term (one year), 60% FTE position with potential for extension 

Salary will be commensurate with the level of experience and prorated for 60% FTE. Benefits will include extended health insurance. 

We are seeking a dynamic Business Strategist to join our Product R&D team. This role is multifaceted. Initial priorities include coordinating research efforts, particularly in the area of implementing animal experiments for product testing, developing an IT infrastructure, developing business cases, and leading communication efforts. This role will report to CEO or designate. The work will involve visits to farms in the lower mainland. 

Project Support and Supervision

• Collaborate with contractual research organizations, industry partners, and wet-lab scientists to execute experiments and interpret data
• Assist in hands-on data collection and analysis from animal experiments
• Supervise staff, interns, and co-op students
• Support report writing efforts

IT

• Design an IT infrastructure for secure data sharing, storage, and compliance with regulatory bodies
• Develop and/or implement AI tools and systems to address emerging business needs and opportunities
• Create visualization techniques to effectively represent multidimensional data
• Contribute to the enhancement and optimization of production pipelines for analyzing AMP sequencing data
• Prepare documentation

Business Development

• Develop business cases, including drafting proposals, conducting needs and market analyses, and forecasting budgets
• Represent Amphoraxe in business transactions, including finance

Communication

• Revise and update the company website
• Communicate research findings on the website and social media platforms, translating complex data into understandable insights for a lay audience
• Conduct other related tasks as assigned 

• The ideal candidate will possess experience and/or formal education in Information Technology, Business, Computer Science,  Statistics, or a related field
• Five or more years combined experience working in industry and/or government settings is a plus
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as R, Python, and Bash; web technologies such as HTML, CSS,  and JavaScript (ES6)
• Proficiency in command line operations in multiple operating systems
• Experience with building complex code in a collaborative environment is a plus
• Skills in software development for mobile systems is a plus
• A good foundation in statistical analysis and machine learning
• Experience in business development
• Excellent team work skills
• Ability to take initiative, and work under minimal supervision and with tight deadlines is a must
• The ability to express complex ideas in understandable ways, and to communicate effectively with people from different fields and lay audiences
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
• Attention to detail
• Ability to travel
• Willingness to learn and grow
